Design & Media

If you fancy a job in the Creative Industries you couldn't be looking in a better place. With the fastest growing digital industries sector in the UK, Yorkshire is not only up and coming in the world of Media and Design but Leeds is also home to the fastest growing media centre. With an excellent mix of vibrant cities and beautiful countryside there is no doubt that the region is a great place to nurture creativity.

The Creative Industries sector is the fastest growing in the UK. Worth £112.5 billion and bringing in £5 billion pounds a year, it provides work for 1.8 million people - 45,000 right here in Yorkshire.

Although the industry is in high demand getting in can be tricky as jobs at entry level can be elusive as well as competitive. Putting yourself ahead of the game through work experience and practical application of skills is essential to stand out from the crowd. For more ideas of how to get some all important "soft skills" on your CV check out the jobs in this area or have a look through our Application Advice section.

Although there are agencies and in house opportunities across the region you do find that many related businesses will stick together or cluster in specific towns and cities. The Fine Arts have a strong presence in Sheffield and the Cultural Industries Quarter in the city is home to a range of small businesses in media, digital, visual arts and music. Larger media and design agencies can be found in Leeds along with the BBC and the home of Yorkshire Television.

Most of the design and media agencies that call Yorkshire home are relatively small and a large number of industry professionals do tend to be self-employed or freelance workers.

Jobs in the industry vary greatly but have a look round the job titles in this section to get a better idea of what working in the Creative Industries is like and what opportunities are available to you.
