Construction & Property

Not all careers in Construction and Property require fluorescent jackets, hard hats and long hours spent on muddy building sites. As the UK's biggest industry, the sector employs over 2 million people in 700 different roles. From office bound administration work to onsite construction jobs, there are loads of options for you to consider.

This sector compromises a number of areas including:

  • The repair, development and maintenance of infrastructure such as roads, bridges and ports.
  • Construction and management of public and private housing
  • Construction and management of public sector buildings like schools and hospitals
  • Industrial and commercial construction (the building, development and maintenance of factories and public areas like shopping centres and stadiums)

Working in a role in this area you can expect to be working as part of a team with other industry professionals to get a project off the ground, a development finished or a property sold. That means you need to be a great team player with excellent communication skills as well as having a keen interest in the industry and plenty of confidence and enthusiasm.

In Yorkshire the construction and property industry is set to grow by 6% over the next 5 years with over 6,000 new jobs created every year. About a third of these are expected to be at a graduate level in roles such as Architecture, Surveying and Engineering as well as jobs being created in Property for Estate Agents and Auctioneers.

You only have to look around you to see the extent to which construction is playing a vital role in the future of the region with new developments springing up all over the place to meet the demand for housing and office space.

If you fancy joining a team of experts helping to shape the future for generations to come there are loads of opportunities on offer so have a look around this section to find out more.
