Job details:
Faculty of Arts, Computing, Engineering and Sciences
Fixed-term for 24 months
Full time

KTP is one of the UK's largest graduate recruitment schemes. This position with a pioneering company and a leading university department is an opportunity for you to make your mark.

Panel Systems Ltd. have joined forces with Sheffield Hallam University on this KTP project to enable them to develop innovative heated composite panels for the electric automobile (bus/car/caravan) industries. This company partner based in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, has over thirty years of experience of supplying insulated panel products into a diverse range of markets including building, transport, education and leisure.

The company has identified a need to investigate, research and develop this concept to pre-production level. You will be working at the junctions of materials technology, mechanical and electrical engineering design and thermodynamics.

Ideally, you will have a Master's degree in Materials/Civil/Mechanical Engineering with knowledge and experience of material testing techniques relevant to the project. Knowledge and experience of engineering design and detailing including appropriate use of IT is essential and a good understanding of heat transfer is desirable. Relevant industrial experience is highly desirable, and you must be pro-active, have excellent communication, report writing and presentation skills, and be able to work effectively as part of a team.

You will be based at the company site in Sheffield working directly with senior company staff, as well as receiving additional mentoring support from expert university staff. The role requires a commitment to travel in pursuance of the programme objectives (predominantly between the company and the University).

The appointment carries a range of benefits including:

• Excellent opportunity to "fast track” your career by leading a high profile and strategically important project to a successful conclusion
• A generous personal development budget in addition to formal KTP management training
• Automatic inclusion in our defined benefit pension scheme.
• The opportunity to register for a higher degree for which tuition fees will be waived.

Although the appointment is initially for 24 months it is likely that a permanent position will be available within the company on successful completion of the project.

For non-EU applicants, we are unlikely to be able to offer a certificate of sponsorship for this job (unless you are switching from a UK student visa), so you should only apply if you already have unrestricted permission to work in the UK.
