This vacancy has now closed.
Oceans ESU Ltd
Oceans ESU is a highly respected technical consultancy, specialising in providing sustainable and integrated environmental solutions for a wide range of industrial, retail and municipal applications around the world.
While we undertake many aspects of environmental consultancy, we specialise in the treatment of industrial waste waters using reed bed technology.
Further information can be found on our website, www.oceans-esu.com.
We are looking for a science graduate to join our Graduate Development Scheme. This position is open to both recent graduates and those with some experience since completing their degree course.
On joining the Graduate Development Scheme you will be allocated to an entry level role (in this case, Air Quality Technician), but alongside your standard work you will be given access to a structured training and development programme.
Your main role will be to perform air monitoring work, typically working weekends and night shifts on various sites around the UK. Typically you will be carrying out vapour monitoring in supermarkets. During the shift you will be monitoring air quality to ensure the health and safety of site personnel. The role involves data collection, communication with site staff and resolving any problems that occur on site.
You must be prepared to work anywhere in the UK. Travel expenses for site work will be covered by Oceans-ESU, including hotel accommodation where necessary. You must be reliable and capable of ensuring you arrive on time and fully equipped for each job.
You will normally spend some time each week working in the Barnsley head office where you will be writing reports and similar, therefore it is expected that you will live within commuting distance of Barnsley.
If night shift work is not available in any week, you will spend your time working in the office during normal office hours, or you may have the opportunity to get involved with other projects. However, it is essential that you commit to being available for weekend night shifts (typically Saturday nights and Sunday nights) as a minimum. (Occasional weekends off can be booked using your holiday allowance).
This role represents an excellent opportunity for a science graduate to join a growing environmental consultancy and gain experience in site and office based work.
The Graduate Development Scheme offers a structured training package through access to our online training portal and consists of online, site and classroom based training, including work shadowing and external training courses. Initially, the training will focus on the skills and qualifications necessary to perform your allocated role, but if you progress to later stages you will have the opportunity to widen your training and learn about other aspects of environmental consultancy. You will be fully supported through your development by your Line Manager and our mentoring system; and you will receive regular feedback on your performance. Your progress will be regularly assessed and you will be able to keep track of this through the online training portal. Although this is initially a 6 month fixed term contract, there may be the opportunity for extension depending on your performance and the needs of the business, and for the right candidate this will include progression onto the next stage of the Graduate Development Scheme.
To apply for this position, please submit your CV with a covering letter explaining why you are suitable for this role, giving examples which illustrate how you meet the Person Specification.
