Estate Steward - Nostell Priory
This vacancy has now closed.
The National Trust
The National Trust is a charity and is completely independent of Government. It relies for income on membership fees, donations and legacies, and revenue raised from commercial operations.
It now has 3.4 million members and 43,000 volunteers. More than 12 million people visit its pay for entry properties, while an estimated 50 million visit the open air properties.
It protects and opens to the public over 300 historic houses and gardens and 49 industrial monuments and mills. But it doesn’t stop there. It also looks after forests, woods, fens, beaches, farmland, downs, moorland, islands, archaeological remains, castles, nature reserves, villages - for ever, for everyone.
There’s an amazing amount of things to see, do, discover, explore and enjoy here at Nostell Priory. From lakeside walks to the adventure playground, from the house’s collection of specially-made Chippendale furniture, to paintings by Brueghel, Hogarth and Kauffmann. And because we want everyone to get involved with this incredible place, we’re bringing its fascinating stories to life in all sorts of new and exciting ways. With a love of historic houses, you’ll make sure that we’re conserving and caring for the Estate while helping everyone to find inspiration and adventure here.
If you’re keen to develop your skills and know-how, we’ll give you all the training and support you need. We’ll even send you off on training courses, if that’s something you’re keen to do. You’ll also enjoy free admission to all our incredible places (that’s you and your family), and a helpful 20% off at our shops, cafes and restaurants. There’s also MY Discounts, a brilliant scheme that gives you exclusive discounts with hundreds of retailers and big brands. But they’re just the benefits we can tell you about here. There’s lots more at www.nationaltrustrewardsandbenefits.org.uk
With a great team beside you, and working closely with the House and Collections Manager, you’ll make sure that the mansion house and stable block (as well as other outbuildings and accommodation) are beautifully cared for and presented. In other words, that we’re effectively and sympathetically maintaining the services and fabric of this incredible place. So you’ll be the key point of contact for routine, preventative, cyclical and emergency works, overseeing teams of colleagues, volunteers and contractors as necessary.
And, where needed, you’ll call on specialists in the National Trust Consultancy, seeking their expert advice and guidance before starting any work. You’ll also be responsible for the day-to-day management of the various property systems, including fire and alarms systems.
Sharing our love of people and places, you’ll enjoy bringing the magic of Nostell Priory to life for visitors of all ages and backgrounds.
But as well as places, you love working with people, and it’d be great if you have some experience of managing teams (including colleagues, volunteers and contractors). You’ll need to be good with budgets too. It’s also important that you’re up-to-speed with H&S, comfortable working at heights and have an impressive eye for even the smallest of details.
You’ll also need a full driving licence and access to a vehicle.
|Skills & experience||
You’ll already know a lot about building management and processes, and you’ll be experienced in site management for both conservation and access.
We’d like you to have practical experience of working in an historic property, caring for buildings and their contents. If you’ve a relevant qualification, that’s even better.
